Future Alert: Veterinary Chatbots Are Coming!
What is a chatbot?
A chatbot is an automated programme that is built to answer user queries within a chat application, think Facebook Messenger, What’s App, Slack and Apple’s iMessage. It acts as a business’s virtual assistant, speeding up service and freeing up support staff to focus on frontline tasks.
Why are chatbots important?
Using a chatbot is becoming more common place. Many people now prefer using online chat when they have a question, rather than using email, calling by phone or searching through a confusing website for answers. In fact, more people now use chat applications like Facebook Messenger than use the main social media websites themselves.
Early results are showing that chatbot messages receive more engagement (opens and clicks) than email.
How can vets benefit?
This new channel of communication is disruptive like SMS, with messages going straight to the phone’s home screen. It presents veterinary practices with a more engaging way to communicate with clients, and automation offers the opportunity to save time and money:
- Handy flea, worm and vaccination reminders
- Personalised health tips and advice
- Answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs)
